Watching…..Hinterland…..

It’s great to see a dark welsh detective series…. It’s in English and Welsh….which is cool…..I’m really enjoying watching this….I thought the third episode was a bit weak but all the others have been good…set in Aberystwyth …….

The Longitude prize…..

A new Longitude prize has been offered in the UK….the original prize won by John Harrison in 1759….was to make a machine ….a clock…..to measure Longitude…..Harrison,a quite ordinary man invented a…….. chronometer…….H4……it would lead to the UK leading the world at sea…..the new challenge is to find an innovation that can change the world just like the chronometer invented by Harrison….

Watching……..True Detective…..

I don’t have Sky Atlantic so I’ve bought True Detective from Amazon instant to watch…..
I can watch it via the Amazon app on my tv, iPad,iphone and Kindle fire…. So really convenient!….
The series is excellent….I’m up to episode 4 and still don’t know what’s going on !!! But it’s still excellent ..
The acting is superb and the mystery is all encompassing …..
So if you haven’t seen it then do… It’s beautifully shot and the soundtrack by T Bone Burnett is outstanding …..and the opening credits by the Black Angels is very atmospheric….

Grayson Perry….. at the Walker…

Grayson Perry has an exhibition on at the Walker Liverpool until August….
It consists of his six tapestries which represent A Rakes Progress…. They are a modern day depiction of class in the UK….. And they are beautiful and clever….He made them along with a BAFTA winning tv series…. I really loved seeing this exhibit especially as I do love Hogarth’s stuff too…..It’s a great exhibit and well worth a visit….

Bridewell……Home Exhibition….

As part of Liverpool Lightnight the Bridewell Gallery has an exhibition called Home…..
Though small the exhibit was well worth a visit ….,having different types of media including film, sound, paint and print….
The gallery itself is also an interesting visit having once been a police station, of some fame, in Liverpool as can be attested by the rather cool signage inside …

The exhibit and gallery are both friendly and interesting….the gallery is home to a number of artists all of whom make use of it’s working space…..
I was struck by a number of exhibits but particularly liked the cooker….from which the artist O’Brien was serving pea and ham soup…..the piece represented how single parents try to cope with taking on different roles within the family unit when they are working alone to look after their family….how roles seen as gender specific have to become more fluid when circumstances change…..I also enjoyed the found objects and the sound sculpture from the artist Nolan …..
In the yard of the gallery was the unexpected sight of the Lambanana , never an unwelcome sight, in my opinion!
