Watching……..True Detective…..

I don’t have Sky Atlantic so I’ve bought True Detective from Amazon instant to watch…..
I can watch it via the Amazon app on my tv, iPad,iphone and Kindle fire…. So really convenient!….
The series is excellent….I’m up to episode 4 and still don’t know what’s going on !!! But it’s still excellent ..
The acting is superb and the mystery is all encompassing …..
So if you haven’t seen it then do… It’s beautifully shot and the soundtrack by T Bone Burnett is outstanding …..and the opening credits by the Black Angels is very atmospheric….

Grayson Perry….. at the Walker…

Grayson Perry has an exhibition on at the Walker Liverpool until August….
It consists of his six tapestries which represent A Rakes Progress…. They are a modern day depiction of class in the UK….. And they are beautiful and clever….He made them along with a BAFTA winning tv series…. I really loved seeing this exhibit especially as I do love Hogarth’s stuff too…..It’s a great exhibit and well worth a visit….

Bridewell……Home Exhibition….

As part of Liverpool Lightnight the Bridewell Gallery has an exhibition called Home…..
Though small the exhibit was well worth a visit ….,having different types of media including film, sound, paint and print….
The gallery itself is also an interesting visit having once been a police station, of some fame, in Liverpool as can be attested by the rather cool signage inside …

The exhibit and gallery are both friendly and interesting….the gallery is home to a number of artists all of whom make use of it’s working space…..
I was struck by a number of exhibits but particularly liked the cooker….from which the artist O’Brien was serving pea and ham soup…..the piece represented how single parents try to cope with taking on different roles within the family unit when they are working alone to look after their family….how roles seen as gender specific have to become more fluid when circumstances change…..I also enjoyed the found objects and the sound sculpture from the artist Nolan …..
In the yard of the gallery was the unexpected sight of the Lambanana , never an unwelcome sight, in my opinion!

Kindness…..

I was reading an article in The Guardian today about Terry Pratchett ….. It led me to The Alzheimer Society website……they have come up with the idea of people becoming Dementia Friends….. You just watch the video and send for the free booklet….. The idea is that through educating ourselves a bit more we can help those with dementia….

The video really impacted on me…. I find the idea of losing the ability to make new memories to be one of the most frightening thoughts about getting older…… However, the idea of learning more, trying to help…..and promoting the idea of being more kind and understanding to those impacted by this really struck me as admirable…..so watch it and see what you think…..Kindness could make a real difference….and it could be a really easy thing for us all to try to do …..https://www.dementiafriends.org.uk

Reading…..

I go through phases with reading….. Sometimes it’s the literary greats….. Other times it’s just the junk ….and the easy repetition….. I’m going through a read an entire series time ……at the moment ….and so I’m making my way through a series of books by M J Trow… The Peter Maxwell series….. Peter is a head of sixth form, a history teacher….. And a detective …..well he keeps stumbling onto crimes anyway! …. The stories are easy…… And Maxwell is irascible…..he won’t do as he is told and like all good History teachers he just wanders around doing his own thing! ……really enjoyable though….
I began by reading…….Maxwell’s House….
